NEWS FOR ALL
LEADERS |
|

Lets all welcome our new District
Executive James Waddey |
My name
is James Waddey, and I am the new District Executive for the Button Gwinnett
District. I am excited to be working for the Boy Scouts in this position, and I
truly look forward to giving back to an organization that has been such a large
part of my life.
Growing
up I participated in Scouting with Troop 370 in the North Atlanta District where
I earned my Arrow of Light and Eagle Scout Award. I am also a member of the
Order of the Arrow and have had the opportunity to be involved in Scouting
through trips to Philmont Scout Ranch and a number of Scout summer camps.
I look
forward to meeting everyone in the Button Gwinnett district and encourage anyone
to contact me with any questions.

Cub
Family Camp
Council-organized Cub Family Camps are
overnight events involving more than one pack. Council
provides all elements of the outdoor experience, such as
staffing, food service, housing in summer camp tents,
and program. The program is generally centered around a
fun and exciting theme and consists of activities such
as but not limited to swimming, nature, BB gun shooting,
archery, and crafts. The program also features a rousing
campfire ceremony!
In most cases, the youth participants will be under the
supervision of a parent or guardian. In all cases, each
youth participant is responsible to a specific adult.
Council-organized family camps are conducted in
accordance with established National Standards. Summer
Camp Staff assisted by volunteer Leaders and Scouts
provide the program for these activities.
The Atlanta Area Council provides two opportunities to
attend Cub Family Camp each summer. The Cub Family Camp
at Bert Adams Scout Reservation will be June 21-22. The
Cub Family Camp at Woodruff Scout Reservation will be
July 12-13.

The Atlanta Area Council
will be represented by 6 troops (216 youth and 24
adults) at the 2010 Jamboree. Many other youth and
Scouters will attend in staff positions. Formal
communication will be coming from the Council Jamboree
Committee in the next few months. Interviews for troop
leadership positions will be held in the early fall of
2008.
All Youth and adult leaders must complete an online
application. It is accessed through www.scouting.org for
non-BSA employees. Applicants will need to use their BSA
ID number or their Social Security number to access the
application Web site. The individual will be directed to
print a confirmation and send it to the council with a
$100 deposit. This application does not guarantee you a
position for the jamboree, but does get you started on
the process to be approved as a participant or staff
member.
The Web site will be activated in May 2008. We will
notify all AAC units when we know that this website is
active.

ORDER
OF THE ARROW: TELLA QUALLA BOUNDARY CHAPTER |
|
 |
|
|
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is a
national brotherhood of scout honored campers. Founded in
1915, the Order serves to promote Scouting ideals, the
camping program, and to recognize those Scouts and Scouters
who show leadership in cheerful service to others. Native
American traditions, customs, and ceremonies are an integral
part of the Order's program of service. Democratic in
nature, lodges are youth run by young men under 21 years of
age. As members are elected by their fellow scouts, the OA
is unique in that the majority of those who decide who may
join are non-members.
