Updated info and flier - 2014 Button Gwinnett District Camporee

Posted on Mar 13 2014 - 11:12pm

Come one, come all, as we go in search of the Ring!
It is time for the annual spring camporee and it's theme will be "Lord of the Rings".  So, channel your inner Frodo and unleash the Gimli in each of you ("I'm wasted on cross-country! We dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!")

Troop attendance final numbers will be due and payment will be collected at the District roundtable meeting this coming Tuesday, March 18th.  Price will be $10 per attendee and checks should be made payable to: Venture Crew 9236.

The camporee will be held at Bert Adams Scout Reservation the weekend of March 28 - 30.  Events will revolve around Scout skills and fun activities such as first-aid, pioneering, Scout trivia, team building and more. Saturday night will include a campfire and feature Troop skits.  Also, back this year for Saturday night will be the Order of the Arrow (OA) tapout ceremony to recognize this year's OA candidates.

Cubmasters, Scoutmasters and Unit Committee Chairs:
Save the date of Saturday, April 26 and make plans to attend this inaugural unit program planning event.  Attached is the flier with some basic information about what to expect for the morning. Help to make this a success by sending at least one leader from each of your units.

AAC Resident Camp Camperships Available

Posted on Mar 7 2014 - 2:04am

Unit Leaders and Unit Committee Chairs -
Hopefully your units are making plans for summer camp activities and there will be a number of you going to either Bert Adams or Woodruff.  For those that will be utilizing one of these two camps, I want to briefly touch on a subject that may affect some of your Scouts - and that is money, specifically funding for payment of camp fees.

Family financial difficulties should not stand in the way of any Scout being able to attend summer camp at either Atlanta area facility.  With that being said, most of you may be aware of the campership program sponsored by the Atlanta Area Council.  For those that do not know about this program, it is designed to assist Scouts and their families with AAC resident camping fees.  (See the attached form for more details and instructions.)

New Rountable Location

Posted on Mar 6 2014 - 1:38pm

Starting in April, the Button Gwinnett District Roundtable will have a new location. Christ the King Lutheran Church (5575 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross, GA 30092) has graciously volunteered to host us for our monthly Roundtables. We will continue to meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month at 7:30pm. By moving the monthly Roundtable to a slightly more centralized location, I hope to further increase participation by out units. I and the entire District volunteer staff is so appreciative for Christ Church Episcopal and Troop 26 for hosting us for so many years. Our March Roundtable will still be at Christ Church Episcopal, and I look forward to seeing each of you there.
